As COVID-19 continues to rapidly spread, we know clinics using our system are coming to a crossroads where they must decide to either temporarily close their doors or continue to provide service, either in-person or through telemedicine. We understand this may be a stressful time for you as a small business owner, however, we want you to know you are not alone. As you make the decision that best benefits your patients and your staff, we want you to know that we’re here for you.

What are your options?

We understand that your practice may be your primary or only source of income for your household, so temporarily shutting down your practice may not financially be an option. One of the great benefits of already having your practice on Unified Practice is that all of your patient information is available to you from anywhere. That means, you can easily offer telemedicine to your patients and have access to all of your charts, notes, and billing information.

To set up Unified Practice to work as a telemedicine platform, follow the steps outlined in our guide: How Do I Set Up Telemedicine Services?

Is telehealth HIPAA compliant?

Normally, it would depend on how you were giving treatment (phone or video). Generally, over-the-phone care is HIPAA compliant while video chat is not. However, while we are in a health emergency, the Office of Civil Rights has suspended enforcing penalties for violating HIPAA as they encourage medical professionals to provide care remotely if they can.

How will Unified Practice continue to support you?

Our team is spread out across the globe, so as this pandemic spreads, it’s important to us that we take precautions to protect our employees, who will be working from home for the foreseeable future. We’re grateful for our ability to be flexible as we continue to provide you with the support you may need during this trying time.

Our customer support team will still be available Monday through Friday from 9am – 8pm EST. Feel free to call us at 866.525.5650, email us at support@unifiedpractice.com, or explore our help center.

Whether you continue to see patients in person, offer telemedicine, or temporarily close down, Unified Practice will continue to support you, your clinic, and your patients through this tough and unprecedented time.
